Antonin Kinsky: How excited should fans be about their latest signing?

Kinsky made his debut against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final and has blown fans away with his man of the match performance against the Premier League leaders. But who exactly is he?

Kinsky was brought in on the 4th of January after Tottenham Hotspur were able to complete his transfer from Slavia Prague.

The 21 year old Czechia international was brought in for £13.3 million as Tottenham's defensive displays have been rather disappointing amidst all of their injuries.

Injuries have been a worry for Tottenham in their goalkeeping position especially with their number one Guglielmo Vicario being out with a long-term injury after fracturing his ankle in November.

Since then, he has been replaced by veteran backup Fraser Forster. However, his performances have been lacklustre and disappointing as he has not been able to adapt to the style of Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham.

If the 1-0 win over Liverpool was anything to go off of, then it seems like Postecoglou has found his backup who is comfortable playing out from the very back of the pitch.

The way Tottenham set up their attacks is often through fluid passing, both short and long, although the goal against Liverpool came from a long ball over the top.

However, the goalkeeper is essential to the more usual passing system too as someone to distribute the ball, even through intense pressure from teams, such as Liverpool.

Kinsky was much more involved than Forster was. For instance, Forster only had 28 touches of the ball in his most recent game he played against Wolves. In comparison, Kinsky had 58 touches of the ball in the match against Liverpool and had 45 pass attempts compared to Forster's 21.

This shows Kinsky perhaps being more comfortable to be involved with the passing game as well as acting as the shot stopper for the team, similarly to how Vicario was playing before his injury.

Although this was an incredible debut for the new goalkeeper, it is now time to see how consistent these performances from him can be as Spurs fans have been frustrated with the defensive efforts, due to the lack of personnel that are present there.

Kinsky did have to make a good save against National League Tamworth, but the story of that tie was very much Tottenham's shortcomings at the other end of the pitch.

With the North London Derby taking place on the 15th January, a real test will be provided for the new man in goal. Not only are Arsenal the third highest scorers in the Premier League, but they also put immense pressure on goalkeepers from their deadly set pieces.

The early signs for Kinsky are good, but there's plenty of time to go before Spurs can be confident they've got a genuine backup for Vicario.
