Clarets take on Huddersfield in the curtain raiser.

Vincent Kompany’s first competitive game as Burnley manager see’s them face off against Huddersfield Town in the opening game of the season.

The Clarets play their first game in the Championship after 6 years in the Premier League, and they will be without the iconic Maxwel Cornet as he has been deemed not fit enough to take part.

Burnley fans can expect to see debuts from Arijanet Muric, Josh Cullen, Samuel Bastien, Scott Twine at a minimum, as they have all been passed fit.

Huddersfield go into the game following a strange summer. Losing their manager, as well as key players Harry Toffolo and Lewis O’Brien.

Striker Jay Rodriguez is expected to lead the line in a similar formation to Burnley’s friendly victory over Shrewsbury Town, with Josh Brownhill and Samuel Bastien in a wide attacking midfield role.

This should be a fantastic opening game for the season in a vibrant stadium, two passionate sets of fans, and some great football to be played.

Obviously, being a Burnley fan, I’m going to predict a Burnley win, I think the departure of two lynchpins in the Huddersfield team as well as Carlos Corberan will set Huddersfield back quite a way, and with Danny Schofield taking his first game for Town in the dugout, I think on the day, Burnley will have too much quality for the home side.

Prediction: Huddersfield Town 0-2 Burnley
