Over the recent festive period the club have had their share of both ups and downs with players and staff leaving and returning and the team having a difficult few opponents to play.
Earlier in November, goalkeeper Tommy Taylor returned to the pitch after have a period of time on the bench. Darlington have had a continuous string of losses leading to the latest manager being sacked after only around four months at the club. In addition to this, they have signed a few new players, such as Cardo Siddik.
Darlington's favoured goalkeeper returned to the pitch after having some time on the side lines. The previous manager chose to remove Taylor from the starting lineup along with another player or two, so that he could change things up and try and improve the team’s results at the end of the match. However, his changes made little difference to Darlington, as they continued getting poorer results. Taylor was substituted for their other goalkeeper, David Robson, who has now left the club and gone back to Hull City.
On Boxing day and at New Year Darlington faced Scarborough Athletic and on both occasions Scarborough came on top. They won 2-0 on Boxing Day and won 0-1 over New Year. The last five times Darlington and Scarborough have come face to face Darlington have won twice and Scarborough three times.
Due to the lack of wins and positive results, Darlington parted ways with recent Manager Josh Gowling- who came to the club from his previous manager role at Hereford. He worked alongside Co-Manager Danny Rose, who stayed at the club and took over as caretaker manager until the new manager was found. The new manager Darlo has brought in Steve Watson.
Steve Watson has had a career in football most his life, starting off playing for Sheffield Wednesday and then worked his way up to playing for Newcastle United. During his time at United he made a total of 208 appearances and scored 12 goals. Before this he also spent time at Aston Villa and Everton. Throughout his time as a manager he has managed four different teams, including Gateshead, York City, Chester and now Darlington. Hopefully he can create an improved team and start getting better results and wins.
