Everton's Gabby George was named the Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month for January.
After an impressive start to the season and recent form, George rightfully won Player of the Month, especially after her recent displays which saw the wing back score and assist against Reading and keep a clean sheet against West Ham United at home.
George has established herself in Brian Sorensen's side and has proven to be valuable player for the Toffees. Everton are in good form and after back-to- back wins at home the Toffees find themselves sat fifth in the table, five points behind fourth place Manchester City.
Brian Sorenson’s side have made there ambitions for the season clear as they push for top four with George thriving in the back line. George has played 876 minutes so far this season with 2 assists and 1 goal to name.
The wing back has proven that she helps her team defensively and when attacking up the other end of the pitch. George can be dangerous in front of goal which was shown from her sensational goal against Reading which was nominated for the league’s Goal of the Month.
Winning Player of the Month has proven to be a confidence boost for George and a step forward in her career as back in 2020 George suffered from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament which resulted in her not playing for 377 days. But despite the knock back from injury three years ago, George is now at the top of her game as stating eleven player in Brian Sorenson’s side.
George and the Toffees will now be looking ahead to their next WSL fixture which is against top of the table side, Manchester United Women. A result against the Red Devils would help close the gap between them and the top four and put pressure on the league leaders.
