Lewes knocked out tier 4 side Cardiff City 6-1 to become the lowest ranked club, alongside Birmingham the other championship side, left in the competition.
Centre Back, Ellie Mason, scored her hat trick on her 100th appearance for the club and Lewes are in the quarter finals for the first time in the clubs history, where they will face WSL side Manchester United at home after they beat Durham 5-0. Ashley Hodson's goal was the difference that secured the win for the Blues, when she scored in the 102nd minute of extra time against Charlton. Birmingham will now take on Brighton and Hove Albion after their 5-0 win to struggling Coventry.
Holders Chelsea beat rivals Arsenal 2-0, where second half goals from Sam Kerr and Sophie Ingle were the difference to keep Emma Hayes' ambitions of winning the trophy for the third consecutive time.
These two sides will face each other again in the League cup final next week as the Gunners will look to try and find a way to beat this strong Chelsea side. Chelsea will face Reading in the next round at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
Reading went the distance for the second time in this competition after beating Tottenham 5-4 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes. Lauren Wade hit the winning penalty for the Royals, as Spurs’s Kerys Harrop struck the crossbar to send Reading through to the quarter finals. Villa also beat West Ham on penalties after goals from Rachel Daly and Dagny Brynjarsdottir had the game level at 1-1. In sudden death, Hannah Hampton fired her spot kick into the net to give her side the advantage, although the game was won when West Ham keeper Mackenzie Arnold fired over the crossbar.
Villa will take on Manchester City after their 8-1 win vs Bristol City.
Bunny Shaw scored 4 goals and completed a 2nd consecutive hat trick in this competition, which takes her tally to 17 goals for the season. Bristol’s only goal came from youngster Gracie Pearse who scored her first goal in a City shirt after joining on loan from Spurs for the season.
