Last week EA sports released the FIFA23 player rankings ahead of this summer World Cup, in which Spain and Australia become favourites, after both captains- Putellas and Kerr- pave the way at the top.
But who else has EA sports mentioned to be promising during this summer campaign. Let’s take a look at the top 10 ranked players:
Alexia Putellas- 91
Despite not playing on the pitch for just under a year, due to an ACL injury, Alexia Putellas is still very highly ranked. By 2022, the two-time Ballon d’Or winner had won all major club and individual awards that a European play could win, which contributes to the argument that she is the world’s best contemporary female footballer. Not only a legend for Spain, with 26 goals in 99 appearances, but also a crucial leader for Barcelona.
Sam Kerr- 91
Australian forward, Sam Kerr, is equally just as influential to the women’s game as Putellas- according to the ranking. The Blues striker made her debut on the international stage for Australia at just 15 years old, and since then has consistently worn the armband. During her time playing for the Matilda’s, the 29 year old holds many honours, but arguably the most iconic is being the first Australian player 9male or female) ever to score a hat-trick at a World Cup. Kerr’s backflip celebrations have been a ritual for both club and country, in which she helped Chelsea to their 4th consecutive Women’s Super League title this season.
Caroline Graham Hansen- 90
The Norwegian winger, Caroline Graham Hansen, starts the 90 club in the rankings. The 28 year olds power, technique, game-changing ability and field vision rightly justify this position. Since going to Barcelona in 2019, in which herself and Putellas create an attacking force like no other, the forward has scored 46 goals in 114 appearances. As well as this, her 42 goals in 87 matches for Norway, creates tension and excitement for Group A at the World Cup.
Alex Morgan, ada Hegerberg and Wendie Renard are the only other players to be ranked at 90. As all these players will represent different teams at the world Cup, it makes the summer tournament that bit more exciting than it already is!
Lucy Bronze stands out alone on 89, falling just short of the 90 cohort. The Lioness is arguably the most decorative player in football, with an impressive 4 Champions league trophies and 7 league titles. Will this summer campaign see the 31 year old defender move up in the ranks.
Irene paredes, kadidiatou Diani and Guro Reiten complete the top 10 ranked FIFA23 players by EA sports, with 88.
Do you agree with these rankings? Who would you put in the top 10 instead?
