Egypt and Liverpool star player, Mohamed Salah, returns back to England after having to drop out of the Egypt squad at the African Cup of Nations. The time he has out of the AFCON may be temporary dependent on the severity of his hamstring injury and how successful his recovery period will be.
Since suffering from this muscle injury he has missed his last game against Cape Verde and is due to miss upcoming game in the knockouts.
During the game between Egypt and Ghana which came to a draw; with Marmouch and Abdalla scoring for Egypt along with Kudus scoring two for Ghana, Mohamed Salah had to be removed and substituted off the pitch. Although the world famous Salah had to return home to England, his side in the African cup of nations unfortunately did not secure a win and the game resulted in a 2-2 draw. Mohammed Salah was brought off the pitch at 45+1 minutes into the game, just before half time in the clash between Egypt and Ghana on the 18th of January 2023. He suffered and is suffering with a lower body muscle injury.
The Premier League club Salah plays announced the player would be returning to England and to the club to receive treatment for his injury. It is unknown if he will return back to Africa to join his national teammates. Depending on how far Egypt get without Salah, it is hoped he will be fit enough to fly back out and join the squad in time for the semi-finals of this year’s tournament maybe for the knock out stages. If his treatment and recovery all goes to plan he could only miss out on Egypt's next two fixtures. However, officials have said that if the injury is worse than originally thought there is potential that the Egyptian star player could be out of sport from three to four weeks.
The remaining big question everyone is asking is whether or not can Egypt carry on and try win the 2024 African cup of nations?
