Luton Ladies aim to challenge money boosted Bedford

Luton Town ladies got back to winning ways after thrashing Kings Lynn 11- 0. More notably Real Bedford dropped points for the first time this season. The heavily invested side had won 15/15 games in the league, before falling to a 4-1 defeat against Haringey Borough in a shock result.

The results leave Luton Town Ladies, 17 points behind Real Bedford, with 3 games in hand. Although Real Bedford seem destined to win the league, hope is not lost for Luton Ladies. Should they win their 3 games in hand, this will take them to third place, 4 points behind Haringey Borough, with 3 games in hand still remaining, this'll also leave them 8 points behind Real Bedford.

Luton Town Ladies are scheduled to play Real Bedford twice, both in the league, first at McMullen Park, the home of Real Bedford and then at Barton Rovers FC, the home of Luton Town Ladies. Should The Hatters come out on top in both these fixtures, they'll find themselves in 2nd place and only 2 points behind Real Bedford, they will also have to rely on Bedford to lose at least 1 game, whilst winning all of theirs.

This is a huge task, which is out of the hands of The Hatters, but it is some achievement to be competing with the Real Bedford side who have a significantly higher financial backing, than anyone else in the division & than all the teams in the division above. Real Bedford are owned by Peter McCormack, who has pumped a lot of money into the club, the type of money which has never existed at this level before, in the women's game.

On Friday 12th April 2024, Real Bedford received an even larger financial backing. Billionaire twins, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss will become co owners of the club after investing $4.5m into the Bedfordshire side. Chairman, McCormack has previously said he wants his sides to rise up the English divisions, commenting he sees a pathway for 9th tier Real Bedford men's to reach the Premier League. The men's team are 1 win away from their 2nd promotion in as many years.
