Norwich City Women Mid Season Review

Norwich City women have had a very successful start to the season in both the Vitality Women’s FA Cup and FA Women’s National league division one they have played 9 games so far and have only lost once to a very good Chesham side.

The season started off with a trip to the Abbey Stadium to face Cambridge United in the first league game of the season. How ever Cambridge had the much better start when Francesca Partridge fired an insane shot from outside of the box and put it past Bryony Williams in the Norwich Net to put the U’s 1-0 up. But Norwich then went onto to gain the lead through a really good hat trick from Natasha Snelling and a goal from Ellie Smith who just seemed to have too much quality for Cambridge to be able to deal with.

Norwich then played their first home game of the season at the Nest against they played infront of a record crowd for a Norwich Women’s match and after how last season ended they wanted to show the fans that they had improved and in this game imparticular it was quite a end-to-end game with not much chances. But towards the end of the game Norwich had flurry of chances but Rebecca Russell found the top corner past a diving Actonians keeper to help the Canaries gain a much needed 3 points.

They then had another home game against newly promoted Wymondham Town and another crowd of approximately 400 in attendance. Norwich enjoyed this game with a lot of the ball and also plenty of goals to go with it and also guess who scored another hat trick Natasha Snellings and also then the other goals came from Megan Todd, Olivia Cook, Rebecca Russell and Katie Knights who slotted a very good penalty past a diving Wymondham keeper sealed the game and Norwich took all 3 points and scored 7 unanswered goals to give them a massive confidence boost.

Norwich then went on to face London Seaward in an extremely entertaining game as they have in every other game they came out and got of to an energetic start and moving the ball around the pitch comfortably and then they had 2 opportunities but the Seaward keeper made a very good double save to keep them at bay. Seaward had the first opportunity and converted it to put them 1-0 up. Norwich then went on to equalise from a beautiful free kick from Alice Parker which found the back of the net just seconds before half time. The game was very entertaining from start to finish just when Norwich though they managed to get a goal and three points London Seawards popped up in injury time equalise.

Norwich then made the trip to Loftus Road to face a good QPR side they want to leave with 3 points to keep them joint top of the league with Hashtag United. Norwich started off the weaker of the 2 sides in the opening exchanges and it meant that keeper Bryony Williams had to be extremely alert as QPR had a number of chances to score in the opening few minutes. But after weathering the storm Norwich had their own chances and after some good play between Freya Symonds she played the ball down the wing to Kathryn Stanley who cut inside and then curled into the top corner from 25 yards. Then just before the final whistle A very good cross from Anna Larkins found the head of Megan Todd to score and help the Canaries seal all three points.

Norwich then hosted Hounslow at The Nest which was set to be a very entertaining game and it started from as soon as the referee whistle went and they dominated the ball from the start and it saw Norwich score 7 goals through 2 goals from Ellie smith, Megan Todd, 2 Goals: Kathryn Stanley, Ella Gambell, Olivia Cook.

Norwich then welcomed Cambridge City for a midweek league fixture at The Nest. Something the Canaries fans have got used too is Norwich dominating the ball and moving it very well around the pitch and they scored the first goal quite quickly after Natasha Snelling who put a cross into the box and found the head of Kathryn Stanley who put it into the back of the net. Then not long after this Cambridge City were awarded a penalty after Ellie Smith was judged to have hand balled in the box and they converted the Penalty. Norwich went on to score the winning goal as a Megan Todd header ensured that Norwich got all 3 points.

Norwich then made the trip to Chesham in what a lot of people thought would be easy game and well they were proven completely wrong when Norwich suffered their first loss of the season in the league after Chesham won all 3 points thanks to goals from Emma Delves, a penalty from Emma Fraser and a normal goal from Emma Fraser. Norwich City scored to goals, but it didn’t really mean anything through Natasha Snellings and Rebecca Russell.

Norwich City are currently sat 2nd in the league just 3 points behind Hashtag United and then they will want to climb to the top after the poor season they had last year they seemed to have been able to turn it around with their summer signings all seeming to bed in quite quickly into the team.
