Toffees skipper, Lucy Graham, secures Everton three points after their 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

Everton took all three points after a tight game against WSL opponents Aston Villa, making it three wins out of five for Everton under Brian Sorenson. However, Villa’s winless streak at home continues having won only one of their past thirteen games at home, which was a 4-3 win against Manchester City on the opening day of the season.

From kick off both teams were evenly matched with chances coming from both. Villa nearly took the lead before the break in the thirty-sixth minute with a close-range header from Kirsty Hanson in the centre of the box that went right of the Everton goal.

But it was Everton who took the lead in the fifty-seventh minute with a goal from Everton captain, Lucy Graham. Gabrielle George’s left footed cross met Graham in the box unmarked and with a calm right footed finish into the bottom right corner, Graham gave her side the lead after the break.

After taking the lead, Everton stayed composed and defended their 1-0 lead well much to Villa’s frustration. Everton’s excellent defensive display secured them the three points at the final whistle.

Everton’s 1-0 victory places them fourth in the table whilst Aston Villa sit in sixth. Both sides will face each other again on Wednesday in the Continental Cup which will be an interesting match between these evenly match sides. But in the Women’s Super League Villa will take on third place Chelsea whereas Everton will take on top of the table side Manchester United at home.
