West Ham finish top of Group A.

For the third year running the Hammers finish top of their group in Europe.

After a comfortable 2-0 victory against second place Freiburg at the London Stadium, the Hammers finish top of their group on 15 points, with five wins and only one loss.

After becoming European Champions last season, there is no reason why David Moyes’ side will not believe that they can do it again. Two seasons ago they were in this competition, and they lost in the semi-finals against German side Frankfurt. This year they will hope that they will be in the final in Dublin, to become back-to-back European Champions.

The East London side managed to score 10 goals and only concede four throughout their group stage. In these games they played SC Freiburg, Backa Topola and Olympiacos both home and away. The loss came against the Greek side away, back in October, where they lost 2-1.

Due to finishing top of their group, the Hammers miss out the round of 32 games where the Champions League teams drop into the mix. This allows some of the bigger teams to be eliminated by the time they play their next game.

Throughout the competition they have not struggled scoring, with two of their attackers, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus already being on three goals each. If the Hammers do make it far, they could have one of their players winning the golden boot as well.

Midfielder Tomas Soucek is also on two goals for the European campaign.

West Ham will play their round of 16 tie in February where they will be looking to make it to the quarter finals for the third year running.

Do you believe they can bring home another European trophy in May?
