West Ham Vs Birmingham City Match Report

West Ham produce a dominant display as they win 2-0.

It was a fast start for West Ham. Where Hammers fan herself - Katie Longhurst- put them ahead after 12 minutes, with a chip over Lucy Thomas following a corner.

After causing the Blue’s defenders issues all game. French international Viviane Asseyi used her pace to get into the box and get taken down by Jamie Finn. After already scoring from the spot this season, Dagny Brynjarsdóttir stepped up and placed it home, to score her 6th of the campaign. To make sure they took all the three points.

Birmingham found it hard to get into the game, with only managing 5 shots. But one of them being in the 30th minute were Mackenzie Arnold really showed her worth. A great run and cross by the skipper Christie Murray, landed perfectly on Libby Smith’s head but couldn’t capitalise on the chance.

Paul Konchesky said pre-match that he wants a long run in the competition, and believed they have the quality to win it. He took no risks today, with playing his strongest side against the Championship opposition.

The Irons sit top of their Continental Cup group, after 2 games played, where they will be looking to go 3 in 3 against Brighton and Hove Albion in December.

Konchesky’s side will hope to carry on their winning ways when they face Liverpool in the league at the Halton Stadium next Sunday. Whilst for Birmingham, they will hope their fortune changes when they face Blackburn away.
